Exploring Psychoanalytic Concepts through Culture, the Arts and Contemporary Life
Anne Kane contributes the chapter:
‘”Of Mutability”, mourning, and containment’
AGIP member Anne Kane has a chapter in this recent book published in the Tavistock Clinic Series. The book, Exploring Psychoanalytic Concepts through Culture, the Arts, and Contemporary Life: Learning from observation and experience (Routledge, 2025), profiles some of the work of students and teachers from the psychoanalytic studies MA at the Tavistock.
Contributors span a 30 year period, since the inception of the course to the current time. The subjects of study are diverse, providing thought provoking examples of the use of psychoanalysis to ‘illuminate aspects of cultural and contemporary life beyond the consulting room’ (Lush, introduction). Skilful editing and section introductions link themes spanning infant observation, drama, literature, poetry and aspects of contemporary life in a way that reflects the richness of this vibrant MA course. Anne’s chapter – ‘Of Mutability’, mourning, and containment – explores loss and mourning in connection with the work of the poet Jo Shapcott.
