About Us

AGIP provides an inclusive, dynamic, supportive and pluralistic psychoanalytic community for members and trainees, and increases access to psychotherapy for low- income groups.

AGIP is a registered charity (Number 1083030). It was established in 1974 to provide psychoanalytic psychotherapy services and a training programme. The authority of the Association is vested in its elected Council and the work of the Association is carried forward by the Council and its sub-committees responsible for Training, Clinical matters, Professional matters and Continuing Professional Development. AGIP has a code of ethics and good practice to which all our members subscribe. The organisation is a member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

Our Vision

AGIP’s constitutional aims include the following:

  • To widen the availability of psychoanalytic psychotherapy
  • To provide a psychoanalytically based training programme
  • To provide a forum for members to continue and develop their work
  • To develop and maintain the highest possible professional and ethical standards of professional excellence and ethical conduct in the practice of psychoanalytic psychotherapy
