Applying for Psychotherapy Courses

Offering a Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (

Training Courses in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

Full details on how to apply, application forms and notes for candidates can be found on the apptrainingweb site at

Below is an abridged set of notes for candidates. For the full notes, visit the apptraining web site.

Applicants for the clinical course must normally be at least 28 years old. Applicants for the foundation course must normally be at least 23 years old. (Important note: because of the difference in age requirements between the courses, it may mean that some candidates who satisfactorily complete the foundation course may not be quite eligible to apply for the clinical training, and so have to wait a year or two before applying.)

You are responsible for passing the reference forms to your referees who in turn post them back. It can sometime be difficult to find referees who have known you professionally for at least three years – if you can’t find such a referee then contact the administration at AGIP to talk through the options.

apptraining charges an application fee which covers the initial administration and interview fee. For the foundation course this is £50 and for the clinical training it is £125. These fees are non-refundable.

Applications open for both courses on 1st December 2017. Applications for the clinical training close on 15th May 2018, and for the foundation course, 30th June 2018. Late applications will only be considered if there are still places.
