CURRENT ART EXHIBITION
I have called my submission Lie of the Land which might be taken as a question: Do we see what we think we see? Or it might be asking: How do things stand with us?
My showing is divided into two parts to suggest a movement from conscious reproduction to a reliance on the unconscious. These two parts are separated from each other by a period of twelve years. None of the more recent paintings on show spring from an idea of something I set out to illustrate. To me they seem to illustrate that the act of painting itself can be an exclusive expression of the unconscious and, I argue, must be that to a large extent if it can be considered art.
I will say a few words at the opening about exposure and hold that against the need for secrecy. Thus I am asking a larger question against a background of appalling inhumanity: How does the land lie with us? while casting a glance at psychoanalysis
